On the first weekend of March over 20 young adults bonded over a weekend of sharing, challenges and fun at Camp El Tesoro in Granbury for the 2nd annual Camp Gold AYA Retreat hosted by our partners at Cancer Care Services.
Campers braved the cold rain to enjoy outdoor activities like archery, lower element challenges and canoeing. In between meditation and meals, Shine Therapy was on hand to give each camper a massage. They capped off the first evening with archery tag and speaker Jillian Williams, who shared her experience as a Ewing Sarcoma survivor. Jillian is currently a college student and AYA advocate also plays for the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball team! At the end of the weekend Jillian said about Camp Gold, “Wow, wow and wow! Never have I felt more at home! We worked together, we concurred fears, we froze, but most importantly we connected and grew a bond like no other.”
Camp organizers saved the best for last and did the ropes course and zip line on Sunday! A million thank you’s to our partners at Cancer Care Services who helped to make this weekend fabulous for all of these AYA’s.
