IN MEMORY OF
Tate Wood
Tate was a cherished son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, profoundly missed by all who knew him. He had a strong passion for NBA basketball and NFL football, enjoyed buying and selling sports cards, and actively participated in fantasy leagues. His favorite NBA player was Chris Paul, and he enjoyed watching Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. A dedicated golfer throughout high school, he truly loved the game! His infectious energy and joy lit up every gathering, and he treasured moments spent with friends and family.
Tate graduated from Wylie East High School in 2015 and posthumously received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the University of Texas at San Antonio in December 2021. During his final year of college, he displayed remarkable grit and determination, balancing his studies with ongoing treatment.
At the age of 22, Tate was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction. He bravely underwent major surgery and numerous treatments, ultimately losing his battle in July 2021. Throughout his two-year fight, he remained hopeful for healing and to be cancer free. During Christmas 2019, while receiving radiation treatment, Tate was gifted a stocking from the Rutledge Cancer Foundation that contained a portable speaker—his favorite item. Music provided him with peace and comfort, inspiring his parents, Mike and Julie, to honor his memory by donating speakers through RCF, each accompanied by a note sharing Tate’s story. This ongoing initiative supports young adults facing cancer and keeps his spirit alive. His legacy continues to inspire those who knew him and anyone who hears his story to embrace love and compassion for others.
